Emsella Q&A

What is BTL Emsella®?

BTL Emsella is a noninvasive treatment system that strengthens your pelvic floor muscles to prevent incontinence and pain during sex. Over the course of a series of treatments, it restores control of your bladder, significantly reducing your urge to use the restroom throughout the day.

How is Emsella different from other similar treatments?

Emsella is unique in that it causes deep pelvic floor stimulation using high-intensity focused electromagnetic (HIFEM) technology. Similar procedures on the market use intravaginal electrostimulation, which may cause burns and other uncomfortable side-effects.

Emsella is much more effective than Kegels. Many women find it difficult to build a Kegel routine that includes exercises three times a day. Additionally, Kegels take thousands of reps to show results. Emsella provides the same outcome in just one in-office treatment session.

Am I a good candidate for Emsella?

To determine if you’re a good candidate for Emsella, Dr. Shusterman conducts a physical exam, reviews your medical history, and asks about your symptoms and lifestyle.

You’re probably a good candidate if you regularly experience urinary incontinence, you recently gave birth, or you experience pain during sexual intercourse.

Is treatment with Emsella safe?

Emsella is safe and usually well-tolerated. The treatment has FDA clearance and represents the world’s first innovative treatment to address incontinence and intimate discomfort. During your initial consultation, Dr. Shusterman walks you through the treatment process and explains the machine’s unique safety profile in detail.

How does Emsella treatment work?

On the day of your Emsella appointment, you sit down on the machine. You don’t have to change into a hospital gown or other garment. After Dr. Shusterman explains the treatment process, he turns the machine on. Emsella is entirely pain-free and feels like an intense pelvic floor workout.

Following your treatment session, you can return to normal activity right away. There’s no downtime or recovery period, making Emsella ideal for busy professionals and women on the go.

How long does it take to see the results of Emsella treatment?

The results of Emsella depend on your age and physical health. Many patients experience a significant improvement in their symptoms following just one treatment. Your results typically continue to improve in the days and weeks following your initial session.

To maintain your results, Dr. Shusterman recommends scheduling a follow-up treatment every six months. You should also maintain a healthy lifestyle. Eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, drink plenty of water, and manage your stress levels.
